Bâtard-Montrachet is a grand cru appellation in France, covering 11.8 ha in Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. The rules allow white wine, based on Chardonnay. Regional bedrock: carbonate sedimentary rocks. It lies 4 km north of Chagny and 20 km north of Chalon-sur-Saône.
Grand cru below Montrachet, across the path, shared by Puligny and Chassagne. Deeper soils give a broad, rich white Burgundy.
